Esperanza Spalding- Spontaneous Inspiration

Spalding is a 23 year old bassist/vocalist with an impressive resume of accomplishments. On full scholarship to Berklee school of music, Esperanza not only finished early, but did so to join the Berklee faculty, becoming the youngest faculty member there. Brought up classically, Spalding played the violin throughout all of high school until her "spontaneous" encounter with the bass that changed her musical direction:
"I walk into this room, and it literally — it's kind of below street level, and light was shining in, and the bass was just there with no case on it, because they just bought it. And I walked into the room and picked it up and just started playing."
From here began Spalding's romance with jazz and the blues and her passion for the bass. There is something simply majestic about her presence, scatting over a giant bass with a mane of a 'fro. She brings something to the table in the genre of contemporary jazz, singing in both spanish and portuguese. Esperanza is just what her name suggests: a hope for the revival of jazz.

First Entry
Hey Guys,
So the point of this blog is to get you all engaged in doing some fun reading either on the internet or from you own magazines and newspapers from home! Ideally, we will all post at least one or two summary of one cool/different/interesting thing going on in the world per week and comment on each other's findings and start conversations.
This site has a full listing of a whole bunch of different news sources that you can choose from.
If you're interested in National Geographic documentaries, check out the main page for National Geographic below:
This is also a good site for news around the world:
Chris, you can always give us updates on how your fantasy games are going...
Interesting site about new music:
A nice art news site with great big photos that you can post to the blog
These are just some suggestions, you guys can really post anything you want onto this. Use it as your personal database of interesting things you came across and most importantly, we're using it to see what kind of things interest each other!
You do not have to read about something that doesn't interest you. But you do have to find something that does!
Love you all,
Happy Findings!!!
P.S. Once we start getting some momentum on this blog and posting articles, I'll start making up fun projects for us. I'm down for any suggestions!
